About me
Ernst Arbouw is a writer and journalist from the Netherlands. He works as a freelancer for de Volkskrant, where he writes about science, history, climate and - somehow - beached whales.
In his book H.W.R. was hier ('H.W.R. was here', published 2021), he combined investigative journalism with historical research to trace the footsteps of Canadian soldier Harold Roszell (21) who carved his initials in a tree near Groningen, shortly before he was killed in the Liberation. During his research, he travelled six weeks through Canada, where he met Roszell's family, spoke to veterans, met with historians and spent long days in various archives.
Ernst is a volunteer for the Weekendschool project in his hometown Groningen, where he teaches children from disadvantaged backgrounds (about) journalism.
He is also a climber, rower and open water swimmer.
